Before any cards are dealt, you place a bet on one of three outcomes:

The dealer then gives two cards to the Player position and two cards to the Banker position. Card values: Aces = 1, 2-9 = face value, 10s and face cards = 0. Only the last digit of the total counts. A hand with 7 and 8 totals 15, which counts as 5.

A third card may be drawn according to fixed rules. You do not make decisions. You simply watch and hope your chosen side wins.

Payouts:

• Winning Player bet: 1:1
• Winning Banker bet: 1:1 minus 5% commission (effective payout 0.95:1)
• Winning Tie bet: 8:1 or 9:1 depending on the table

Why the banker bet has commission: The Banker hand has a slight mathematical advantage. The commission balances this so the casino maintains an edge.

No-commission baccarat: Some tables replace the 5% commission with a different rule. If the Banker wins with a total of 6, the payout is reduced to 0.5:1 instead of the standard. Otherwise, Banker pays 1:1. This appeals to players who dislike calculating commission.
